This website previously belonged to BASA-Press News Agency based in the Republic of Moldova. The agency was founded in 5th November, 1992 by a group of journalists and became the first independent news agency in the Republic of Moldova. Its news covered all spectra of events – politics, economics, finance, sports and international news. However it closed its doors on 31st December 2009.
Since its foundation, the agency had been releasing the BASA-general news package (political, economic and social news).
In April 1996, BASA-press became the re-seller of the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) in Moldova. It used to translate most important international news stories and release to customers in Romanian, Russian and English as a separate news package called BASA-international.
Since October 1, 1997, the agency started marketing its third product, BASA-business, which was oriented to business people, bankers, and investors.
On the occasion of its fifth anniversary on November 5, 1997, the agency launched the book “Un comentariu pe saptamina. Republica Moldova in comentariile Agentiei BASA-press (1992-1997)” (A commentary per week. The Republic of Moldova in the commentaries of BASA-press News Agency).
Since October 2000, the BASA-press news package splits into BASA-general (social-political news) and BASA-economic (economic news).
Also in November 2000, the agency went online with its website www.basa.md.
I’ve undertaken the task of re-purposing this website and will be sharing interesting stories about what is happening in our world today. I’ve published some posts about how the media can intervene to uplift the lives of people and you can access them by clicking through the posts below.
Working as a journalist is no all what it seems to be. The hours are log, dealing with the public is traitorous and you may be the unlucky one to be working for a boss you may not particularly like or respect. Working for BASA press news agency was a time in my life that I was enthusiastic and young and also foolish. I took many assignments that were very fun and some that made the nerves in my teeth hurt.
This is not an article about my life and the bad experiences I have had, it is about the story I did while working with BASA. Working for this company was the first job I got after I left college. I was excited and very stressed out. I had a pregnant wife and a lot of inexperience. Working in this field will require a lot from a person’s mind, body and soul. Journalism is not the kind of job for someone with a weak character.
The first assignment I got working for this company was surprisingly my all-time favorite assignment. The topic of the assignment ‘gender equality’ and I had a ball doing the research. I had the same topic for my final project in college so I had a bit of knowledge about the topic before I even started the project.
While doing this project, I met an old lady that had a very peculiar notion on the equality between the sexes. You would expect someone from the old school would carry on about the chivalry of the men in their era but instead enlightened me about the dynamics of a woman in control in the bed room. If you can picture your grandmother talking to you about sex as if you were best friends in high school. I was very troubled after our conversation but the laugh I got chatting to this woman made my day and reduced my stress levels a bit for that day.
While chatting with her, she misled herself or confused and she was going to do the interview on the equality of the genders in the bedroom, specifically when having sex. She broke down the do’s and don’ts of foreplay and even told me that society would be much more relaxed if they were more open and accepting toward sex and all kinds of it. She told me that if more time was spent having sex the world would not be so polluted and the crime rate in every country would significantly reduce.
These were the type of people that I was luckily enough to end up interacting with while I did my projects for BASA. It wasn’t long after I started with the company when it started to going through some changes. It was at that time I decided it was in my best interest to find myself another job. While working with this company I learnt so much that as not only prepared me for the field I was working in but the experience left me with hindsight of the business that has made me a successful journalist to date.
I had the most fun with BASA working on stories that involved regular everyday people and their views and input on the current affairs of their country and the world. It was really exciting for me to interact with the public, you get to learn so much from just listening to the views of the city. What I enjoyed most about working with this company is the assignments that had me in the streets talking to the people and getting to voice their views for them and some of them had some really strange view points on the simplest and irrelevant topics of discussion.
The company has gone through many changes and may still be going through some but I thank them for the opportunity they gave me. It has made my life a lot easier and at a time I was not sure how I would be able to manage all that was happening to me in that time space.
